How AST Model of Holistic Shame Resolution® is Different
AST Model of Holistic Shame Resolution® is the only mind-body-spirit model of its kind. With a laser focus on shame resolution through its manifestations as underbeing, inner conflict, chronic criticism, paradoxical physiobiological states and spiritual shattering, it is the gold star approach in somatic-based shame resolution.
Taught as part of Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute’s Post Advanced Learning Program, AST Model® effectively harnesses the advances in neuroscience, physiobiological principles, chakra energetics & yoga principles, mindfulness, emergent design principles, stress physiology and polyvagal theory to bring their potency together in one gentle yet powerful life-changing approach.
Neurobiologically-Based & Integrative in Nature
Built upon 14 paradigm shifts, AST Model® offers one of the most pioneering distinctions in shame resolution today. Unlike cognitive-behavioral approaches or even other neural-based approaches that often leaves the client to manage a new dilemma of half-processed, naked shame, and the professional in burnt out, AST Model® partners with the various branches of the autonomic nervous system to shift the endless looping of shame and its hard-wired responses. AST Model® then invites these shame shifts to integrate into mind, heart, and spirit. Concretely for clients this shows up as new thoughts, beliefs, behaviors and actions that despite historically seeming deeply habituated and impossible, now shift easily and in some instances even effortlessly.
The joy AST Model®’s approach can offer you as a professional
AST Model® respects all past learning and expertise and works best when its cutting-edge insights, principles and techniques are integrated into already successful professional modalities and backgrounds. AST Model®’s emphasis on an attuned facilitator-client alliance is reciprocal in nature. This fosters nervous system regulation between client and facilitator as the work for the client unfolds and brings shared satisfaction. Those integrating AST Model®’s approach experience less burnout, confusion, depleted energy levels, hopelessness and greater joy, satisfaction and sense of meaning when working with their clients on resolving shame.
What’s a Body’s Nervous System to Do?
Healthy Nervous System
A healthy autonomic nervous system functions in a wave pattern, like a sonic wave, oscillating gently up and down.
A stuck sympathetic arousal is another type of nervous system imbalance. This responsible for panic attacks, anxiety, restlessness and phobia.
This imbalance alternates between sympathetic and parasympathetic extremes and expresses itself as severe moods, bouncing between anxiety and depression.
A stuck parasympathetic arousal is another type of nervous system imbalance. This is the kind that causes depression, numbness, and spaciness.
What do AUTONOMIC and SOMATIC mean?
Our bodies send out physiological signals every moment that we ignore. That’s the reason we have what is called an “autonomic” nervous system. It runs automatically without any interference from our cognitive mind. Plus, our “somatic” or body-based signals don’t come to us in the form of words. If we notice them at all, we usually experience them as bodily sensations. We live frenetically paced, to-do listed lives, whose sheer complexity and velocity place us in overwhelming and risky situations in cars, planes, surgical procedures that make it nearly impossible to stay in touch with ourselves.
Why “Thinking” Our Way Back to Ourselves Can Be Tricky
As overwhelming or negative experiences accumulate and create stuck patterns in our nervous systems and bodies these unconscious patterns over time can appear as negative beliefs, severe mood swings, or limiting mental states. The premise of the AST Model® is that they can resolve fully when addressed at their autonomic and somatic core, or said differently, when they are spoken to in their own nervous system-based language.
The AST Model® is designed to bring resiliency building principles into mind-body sessions and makes these insights available to a wider audience for sustainable life transformations through its somatic approach. The AST Model® is intended to address the need to make major life shifts in the face of bodies, minds and spirits that have, for whatever reasons, become tapped out by life. Because the AST Model® aims to address underlying nervous system function and hidden body responses first, it can create a foundation of repair, stability and resilience out of which healthier change can be sustained.
AST Model® has been shown to be a powerful, effective yet gentle approach and is highly sought out by:
